FLOATING MARKET
Long Xuyen

"It's a great time to sit on a small boat to enjoy the Long Xuyen market. Normally, the big boats anchor close together in the middle of the river; other small boats can easily pass through the crowd and gather close to the banks.
The picturesque sights appear among the sounds of singing, talking and smiling people, giving a vivid picture of Long Xuyen's floating market."

Floating Market

The floating market of Long Xuyen - is one of the non-tourist destinations, so it is great for those who prefer tranquility and avoid crowded places.
Long Xuyeng's market is on the Hau River. This floating market is one of the few places where the traditional culture and local lifestyle are still intact. At 2 kilometers along the Hau River, the market is easy to explore by boat. While the Long Xuyen Floating Market is not as big as the Cai Rang Floating Market in Can Tho, the serenity of this place makes you feel more comfortable and closer to local life.

The floating market consists of hundreds of boats and they come from surrounding villages to trade their agricultural products - you should see this. Part of the market looks like a waterfront food court, as you can enjoy dozens of attractive dishes here, such as rice noodle soup, sweet soup, coffee, banh tam bi - a kind of noodle with coconut milk, banh bo, etc.
However, locals normally advise travelers to visit the market in the floating season when the scenery looks more lively and there are more specialties to enjoy. The floating market lasts from the 7th to 10th lunar months.

Like other floating markets, Long Xuyen should be visited early in the morning as it is time to see the most vibrant view of the market. It's fascinating to see how the locals trade their products on the river, something you've never seen before.

Trading

The market is located close to the city center. You have to walk to O Moi pier, where many rental boats are available. The rental price is approximately VND 200,000 / two ways for 2 people. This boat trip can take about 2 hours.
Please note that 5am - 6am is recommended as it is the best time to witness the lively action of the local riverside life. The people in a hurry to trade their products will overwhelm you.

You already knew about a food car or food truck, right? How about a food court by the river? It sounds great doesn't it? On the floating market of Long Xuyen it seems that you can enjoy breakfast in this kind of food court. More than one boat serving breakfast slowly comes closer to your boat and asks if you want to try their food. Don't ignore them as they certainly offer the best specialties of the Mekong Delta.
Normally, a full breakfast there contains a dish like noodle soup and coffee. In addition to coffee, coconut milk is also excellent, because it is good for your health. If you're a fan of fruit, you can of course order that too. The sellers on the river are considered artists. The way they organize their products and hang their products is a good way to get the attention of buyers and visitors. It is striking that every boat has a bamboo pole with its products on top, which allows the buyers to know what that boat is selling - it is a good tactic here on the Hau river.
