Muong Thanh-markt
Dien Bien Phu

"While not much of this place has been preserved, it remains a meaningful place in Vietnam's history. The view is fantastic, with all the big trees around, we had a beautiful view of the entire city. No wonder why this hill was considered a strategic location.
We visited this hill at the end of March and a month later flowers would bloom everywhere. That must be very spectacular!
While not much information is provided about the battle and the war, it is still a fun place to visit and enjoy the view."

The market

Muong Thanh-bridge - is the bridge over the peaceful Nam Rom River, connecting the east and west Dien Bien Phu. This historic bridge is bustling with river life, because here is the Muong Thanh Market. The Muong Thanh market starts early in the morning until late at night, even in the morning it is rush hour as this is the time when the agricultural products are brought to this market for wholesale and small business crowd to collect these goods.

The market is held every day of the week and has traditionally been known as the oldest existing wholesale market in Dien Bien Phu and surroundings.
There are regular stalls, but also plastic cloths are spread, on which the farmers display their products, which have harvested in their fields. in the fields and mountains.

Usually the products are local, from fruit and vegetables to food, most of which are simply sold by native farmers. Some ethnic minorities come all the way from the northwestern highlands to sell their products.

Hungry?

The typical local products are abundant, fresh and reasonably priced. But ... economic life is developing and more and more supermarkets and convenience stores are coming to the center of Dien Bien Phu. Still, the Muong Thanh market still plays an important role in the lives of local people. It is simple and it is a familiar culture.
The products in the Muong Thanh market are very diverse, but most notable are the typical products of the northwestern mountains, which are sold by local people leading close to the Muong Thanh Bridge. Vegetables, tigers, beef, bamboo shoots, fruits, etc. These are all very specific and well-known products.
At noon you can smell the famous grilled fish - pap pap fish specialties. This is the period when it gets busy with customers who come to eat. Fish, frogs, shrimps, crabs, snails, etc., are eaten well To discover the true cultural life of the daily activities from the region of Dien Bien Phu, don't miss the Muong Thanh Market.
