LAN HA BAY

"Visited with a tour, on the boat it was very quiet which allowed us to enjoy the scenery and listen to the bird etc. We visited a few bays where we kayaked and swam. Water was very cold for me, a bit dark and has a lot of corals etc. So I couldn't walk to the beaches etc. But great I loved it."

Many karst islands

Lan Ha Bay - is located southeast of Cat Ba Island and it is managed by Cat Ba National Park. Lan Ha Bay, which is part of the complex of Ha Long Bay, has approximately 400 islets. Unlike its famous neighbor, Ha Long Bay, Lan Ha Bay has long been famous for its exclusive landscape and many of its pristine limestone mountains, making for many smaller bays. Lan Ha Bay is home to hundreds of mountains, the shapes and beauty of which are completely different depending on the imaginations of travelers: Guoc islet (clog island), Doi islet (bat cave), etc.

Lan Ha Bay has 139 beautiful, small and unspoiled sandy beaches, many of which are located between two mounds.
As hundreds of cruise junks sail into Ha Long Bay every day, a small fraction of this number sail into Lan Ha Bay.
The only boats you see are local fishing boats and maybe a few cruise ships! This is mainly because Lan Ha Bay belongs to the Cat Ba National Park, which means that the beautiful landscape is strictly protected.
As such, tour operators must be licensed to conduct boat trips within the bay, and the good news is that only a handful of companies currently hold these permits!

The walkway

It is also less crowded, because La Ha Bay is not often spoken about. Many are unaware of its existence, keeping it firmly under the tourist radar. That is why there is not much demand for boat trips anyway. This is the perfect place for those who want to escape the crowds and take a quiet boat trip. The peaceful environment is quieter and it feels like you are one of the few people who have ever explored these waters!

The location of the two bays

The landscape in Lan Ha Bay is almost identical to that of Ha Long Bay: the karst mountains rising from the water are just as impressive. There are beaches around every corner and there are even opportunities to kayak through limestone caves without seeing anyone.
You cannot miss this breathtaking landscape. The limestone cliffs are spread over the blue water with white sandy beaches. It is definitely worth visiting this secluded bay when visiting North Vietnam!
Lan Ha Bay is much cleaner and is not constantly polluted by huge numbers of cruise boats with the oil and smoke they release. Lan Ha Bay is often described as "pristine" and it shows in the unpolluted water and clean air.

Kayaking into a cave

Lan Ha Bay is known as the 'adventure bay' - because there are plenty of activities to participate in! From swimming, kayaking and caving to rock climbing, hiking and even biking on some of the bay's larger islands, there is something for every adventurous spirit! The most famous attractions in Lan Ha Bay are Luon Cave, Van Gia Floating Fishing Village, Nam Cat Island, Monkey Island, Van Boi Beach, Rua Island, etc. Many cruise packages and boat trips include kayaking, swimming and more so you can probably combine them ! If you want to see wildlife, it is also possible to see the critically endangered Cat Ba Langur.
Autumn is the most special time to visit Lan Ha Bay, as the weather is extremely beautiful at the moment with pleasant sunshine, cool breezes and blue skies and sea....
